Mod Post. 5/3/19
Hello everyone, and welcome to May's monthly mod post! Please be sure to read all of this post.
Mechanics
If there are any questions, please ask them here, so that we don’t miss any. Thank you, everyone!
Mechanics
Plot
- First off, AC has completed and has been processed. AC is now open for May. May's AC Post can be found here.
- Applications are currently open! There are plenty of slots, so invite your friends to come play!
Quests
- The trees haven't ended up coming any closer as of yet, but they still loom alarmingly close. The event may be over, and characters may have recovered, but if any characters chop down or otherwise harm a tree from the woods, they will suffer from similar effects to the event. In other words, they'll lose some of their emotion for a brief period of time!
- Characters will also note, if they do enough of it, that they are drawn towards the woods the more emotion they lose. If a character ends up totally apathetic, they'll end up wandering into the woods alarmingly often, as if subconsciously. Weird.
- If characters happen to find the trees that were given color in the woods from characters completing quests last month (there are not many of them!) and decide to chop them down for some reason (:(), they will find that they do not experience any side effects at all. It's only chopping down the colorless trees that causes the side effects above.
Color Changes/Rewards
- Quests for May are now up! The OOC breakdown of said quests can be found below, as with last month. All quests have been posted ICly to the Quest Forum Post. Only quests for this month can be turned in for a reward.
- The Quest Reporting comment can be found here. As ever, please respond to that comment once the quest itself has been completed. When reporting the quest, please state what quest it is in the subject line; we've realized that that helps us a lot with keeping track over the past few months!
- Please be aware that Quests must be reported by the end of the month; this is because we use what quests are completed to keep track of what colors are restored for the next month!
This month’s color changes are as follows (color changes can be tracked at the Color Timeline):
Color Gains:
- For completing all of the quests last month, characters have restored the color of soil. The ground around the Town will start to seem much richer. Likewise, they'll find that the colors below can be found quite a lot around the Town.
- If your character has a color log thread from the month of April, please go here to submit a thread! After that, the mods will let you know what color that thread has restored.
Color Losses:
- From drops: Red cabbage, eclairs, popcorn, library outer walls, flan, chimera, harpies, blue crab, frost, cilantro, bunnies, mongoose, cucumbers, hummingbirds, cobwebs, cornbread, town hall roof, ginger, burnt toast, marshmallows, string lights, angora bunnies, tomatoes, seagulls, pie tins, laurel wreaths, starfish, shoelaces, sea eagles, boysenberries, caramel, golden rings, golems, wrapping paper, candy canes, town hall ceiling, sheet music, rice, barn owls, scarves, sweet potatoes, library chairs
If there are any questions, please ask them here, so that we don’t miss any. Thank you, everyone!

QUEST 56
Requirements: Any Colors.
Find someone and show them your true dedication to them. Either through physical or verbal means, make sure they know the depth of your feeling. Family members, friends, mentor/mentees -- show that this person is someone you've dedicated your life to in some way and want them to know their place in your heart.
The form this expression can take is very varied, so feel free to be creative!
Ways to succeed: The other person knows how you feel now! You've exposed your heart just a little bit more to them and they've accepted it. Good job!
Ways to fail: If the other person misunderstands your feeling or the feelings aren't actually sincere, it won't count.
Limit: 2 per character

QUEST 57
Requirements: 1 red.
Go deep into the forest and find the manticore's lair. Wait for it to attack you. Fight it. Try not to die. Manticores are pretty nasty, and this one has plenty of fight in it -- but it's all physical threats. Lion head, scorpion tail and poison, sharp teeth, and the ability to shoot spikes... but no nasty magic tricks or anything. At least it's straightforward.
Ways to succeed: If you're able to fend it off and escape, hooray!
Ways to fail: Do NOT kill the manticore. Killing it will auto-fail the quest, not that the quest is very clear about that. Rude, quest. Also, naturally, do NOT die.
Limit: 1 per character

QUEST 58
Requirements: 1 blue.
Surely you can succeed where every philosopher and alchemist ever has failed? Surely. Anyway, the philosopher's stone is naturally something with a great deal of meaning. It's supposed to be able to turn metal to gold, to cause immortality. And something like that isn't very easy to obtain.
But here's the deal -- if you go out into the woods adventuring with someone else, you'll eventually stumble across what looks to be a cauldron and a bunch of implements for alchemy. You can go as simple or as dramatic as you'd like... but naturally, you're going to have to do some alchemy to make this happen.
The ingredients, though? Well, those are all on you. Go fetch animal parts and precious stones and things. Mix 'em all together, and you'll get...some outcome. It might be randomized from here, or you can send us a list of items and we'll let you know what they make... but it probably won't be a philosopher's stone.
In order to make a philosopher's stone? They naturally have to use some of their own blood, and the blood of their partner. Unfortunately, in the end, they're just party trick toys and don't actually have any real magical abilities, but hey, they look cool.
Ways to succeed: Make a philosopher's stone. Easy, right? (So long as the blood of both people are involved, it'll probably work. Maybe.)
Ways to fail: Anything else is definitely a solid failure.
Limit: 3 per character

QUEST 59
Requirements: Any two colors.
Not a shirt or a glass or something like that. Find something -- an item from home, something they've gained here, or even something intangible like a relationship between two other people -- and destroy it. It must be completely ruined by the time you're done with it.
Ways to succeed: The thing you've destroyed has no chance of coming back! It's gone forever! Yay!
Ways to fail: Come on, don't be wimpy about the destruction. Really destroy that thing.
Limit: Unlimited
